MAKAMBA June 27th (ABP) – Burundi Head of State Evariste Ndayishimiye, accompanied by his better half, Mrs. Angeline Ndayishimiye, inaugurated, on Friday June 24, 2022, in Mvugo village of Nyanza-Lac commune, the patchouli oil factory and the modern fish farming project.

President Ndayishimiye indicated that a businessman must create opportunities to improve the well-being of the people by increasing money-making strategies. He congratulated the people from Nyanza-Lac and those from Rumonge, who cultivate patchouli and who understood that teaming up in cooperatives is a key to development. He advises people with palm groves or shady crops to grow patchouli for money. It is the businessmen who develop the country, the President of the Republic insisted, saying that the government is there to support the efforts of the people who want to follow in the footsteps of the businessmen. He encouraged businessmen to set up agro-processing factories because there are many opportunities.

During his welcome speech, the general manager of the ELAGA project (Livestock Agriculture Aquaculture) which implements the patchouli oil factory and the fish farming projects, Mr. Albert Ndereyimana, asked the government of Burundi to establish the one-stop shop for exporters to facilitate export authorization procedures.

The modern fish farming project will produce fish fry for distribution to fish farming cooperatives in Bubanza, Cibitoke, Ngozi, Gitega and Karusi provinces

Mr. Ndereyimana thanked whoever contributed to the establishment of that factory. He cited, among others, the Ministry of the Environment, Agriculture and Livestock, the one in charge of Trade, the provincial and communal administration as well as the Kingdom of the Netherlands. He offered four heifers to the President of the Republic of Burundi.
