BUBANZA, April 30th (ABP) – The governor of Bubanza province (north-west Burundi), Cléophas Nizigiyimana, is calling on the inhabitants of Bubanza commune to increase production for the development of their households and their country.

That appeal was made on Saturday 27 April during community development work to rehabilitate the road leading to the Gakindo coffee factory in the Muramba zone.

According to the administrator of the Bubanza commune, Olive Niyonkuru, the inhabitants of the Muramba area grow coffee, especially on the Kivyiru, Muramba, Gitanga and Karinzi hills, but are hampered by the inaccessibility of the nearby Gakindo coffee factory.

The local administrator of Bubanza deplores the theft of farmers’ coffee by certain traders, using badly adjusted scales. She also spoke of demographic pressure and the frequent abandonment of families by men in that area. She also mentioned the torrential rains that have destroyed fields and houses, and asked for the support of charitable souls, as we learned on the spot.

As for the rigged scales used by users to steal from coffee growers, Governor Nizigiyimana asked those affected to report that in real time so that the perpetrators could be punished.

On the subject of the damage caused by the vagaries of the weather, he called on the population to help each other and to rehabilitate damaged infrastructure while awaiting any support. The governor of Bubanza invited the people of that commune to work hard to increase household production, in order to implement the vision of Burundi emerging in 2040 and developed in 2060. The provincial authority is also calling on the population of his district to adopt family planning, not to listen to rumours in that pre-electoral period, and to safeguard peace and security, the pillars of development.
