GITEGA June 26th (ABP) – The Burundian government has initiated communication for development as a strategy for the operationalization of the National Development Plan (PND) 2018-2027. This communication advocates the association of the population in the design, execution and monitoring-evaluation of projects related to the PND.

The Director General of Information and Communication, Mr. Jacques Bukuru, delivered these remarks during his opening speech of the activities of a training course organized, from June 22 to 23, 2022, by the Ministry in charge of Communication, intended for members of communication for development communities made up in particular of provincial and municipal councilors in charge of development, from the provinces of the Centre-East and part of the South of the country.

Mrs. Espérance Nijembazi, a speaker, indicated that communication for development aims primarily to bring about a change in the behavior of the population in order to lead it to take ownership of the activities of the PND.

To the press, the participants in the training testified to the added value they received from this training, arguing that it will constitute a significant asset in the performance of their duties.

As an indication, the adviser of the provincial authority of Rutana, Mr. David Nzinahora, indicated that the lessons will be of great use to him both for the identification of the concerns of the population and in taking measures of their resolutions in a consensual manner. In turn, the municipal councilor of Ruyigi, Mrs. Gloriose Niyokindi, testified that this training opened her mind to the need to transmit information in good time, to the hierarchical leaders, so that they can take consistent decisions on the impetus for development.
