The Head of State has inaugurated the Nkurunziza Peace Park Complex Stadium

MAKAMBA June 27th (ABP) – Burundi Head of State Evariste Ndayishimiye, in the company of his better half, proceeded, on Saturday June 25, 2022, in the presence of various authorities of the country, the delegation of the ruling party CCM from Tanzania and the people, at the inauguration of the Nkurunziza Peace Park Complex Stadium (NPPCS) located in Gisenyi in Makamba commune and province.

In his welcome speech, the founder of the Pax Burundi Foundation, initiator of the construction project of the NPPCS Stadium, Mr. Révérien Ndikuriyo, indicated that the project began in 2012 with the celebration of the 50th anniversary of Burundi’s independence to mark its name and thank the Almighty who kept him during times of struggle for democracy in Burundi. That stadium has 25,000 seats, changing rooms, lounges for 80 officials, classrooms and a space of 1,600 m² of gymnasiums, Mr. Ndikuriyo underlined.

The opening of the NPPCS stadium was embellished by the match between the Aigle Noir CS team and the team from Uganda, Kampala City Council Authority (KCCA). The President of the Republic of Burundi, offered a cup dedicated to the late President Nkurunziza to the victorious KCCA team, which scored 4 goals to nil. Players from all teams received medals.

The competition called “Nkurunziza Cup”, second edition, was organized by Pax Burundi Foundation in collaboration with the Burundi Football Federation (FFB). The “young sportsmen” association awarded a prize to the initiator of the NPPCS stadium construction project, Mr. Révérien Ndikuriyo.

The solemn opening ceremonies of the NPPCS stadium were marked by dances of different cultural groups, a parade of the workers who built the stadium for 10 years, the majorettes from Bujumbura, Cibitoke and Bubanza as well as those from Makamba known as Initiative Burundi, cultural groups from Kirundo as well as drummers from

Muramvya.
