RUTANA September 1st (ABP) – Aid consisting of food, clothing, blankets, buckets and soap was granted on Wednesday August 30, 2023 to the neediest prisoners at Rutana central prison. The aid was provided by young pupils on vacation, who are supervised by the Red Cross in Rutana province.

According to the representative of those young people, Miss Ange Bella Kampimbare, part of the aid was collected from households in downtown Rutana and another was granted by the Red Cross, a branch of Rutana.

As for the provincial secretary of that organization, Mr. Lambert Iriho, he said that the objective of the Red Cross is to help the most vulnerable people, hence the choice of that prison. Mr. Iriho asked the management of the said prison to facilitate their access to be able to continue to perform that gesture as often as possible, stressing that the Covid-19 pandemic had constituted a blockage. He called on detainees to behave well during their incarceration so that they can benefit from the advantages granted to prisoners of good behavior.

The deputy director of Rutana central prison, Mr. Rémy Nahumuremyi, and the prisoners’ representative, Mr. Jérémie Karenzo, thanked that branch of the Red Cross as well as those young students for the very beneficial initiative.
