KAYANZA Aug 18th (ABP) – The director of education in Muruta commune deplores the lack of school benches and asks development partners to help fill the gap in order to start the 2023-2024 school year well. He also suggests that the supervisory ministry consider replacing the semi-metallic benches with those made of planks, since this commune has around 2,000 semi-metallic benches that are not functional because they broke without ever being repaired, a check by ABP got informed on Wednesday during an interview, on the occasion of the granting of 150 school benches, tables and chairs to Karunyinya 1 basic school by a German organization called Helfen Direkt e.V.

According to the communal director of education in Muruta, Mr. Nicolas Nzeyimana, the commune records a shortage of 3,763 school benches. This lack is due, according to him, to the semi-metallic benches distributed by the Burundi government and which broke without ever being replaced or repaired. He specifies that this commune has about 2000 semi-metallic benches which have been deposited here and there and which are of no use. For this reason, he asks the Ministry of Education and Scientific Research to consider replacing this kind of desk benches. Thus, he asks the partners and all those who are able to help fill this void in order to allow the pupils to sit comfortably which, according to the same school authority, contributes to the improvement of the school yield.
