KAYANZA, April 29th (ABP) – Loan sharks who have bought avocados that have not yet reached maturity are not allowed to pick them as they are real thieves.

The CNDD-FDD provincial secretary in Butanyerera, Ferdinand Habimana

That was decided on Friday 26 April by the provincial secretary of the CNDD-FDD party in Butanyerera (north), Mr Ferdinand Habimana, during his meeting with members affiliated to that party (the Bagumyabanga) from Muruta and Kabarore, during which he called on them to take a liking to avocados.

At the same time, he recommended that tea growers stop destroying their tea fields, as tea generates much-needed foreign currency for the country.

Speaking to the Bagumyabanga in the communes visited, the provincial secretary of the CNDD-FDD party in Butanyerera referred to the main conclusions of the meetings of the party’s national committee, at which avocado was placed among the other industrial crops grown in Burundi. He announced that an estimated one million tons of avocados would be exported, bringing in over a billion dollars.

To achieve that, Mr Habimana urged the Bagumyabanga to plant many more avocado trees in order to boost both the family and national economies.

He pointed out that it is strictly forbidden to pick avocados that have not yet reached maturity, and warned against loan sharks who have bought them.
