CIBITOKE August 9th (ABP) – Had it not been a large number of people gathered on Monday August 7, 2023, at the junction of the Bubanza-Bukinanyana-Kayanza roads, awaiting the Prime Minister who was to assist the vulnerable, the bush fire in unknown origin, which invaded the Kibira forest, in the locality of Rugoti of Bukinanyana commune, would not have been controlled.

The Prime Minister, Gervais Ndirakobuca, during the distribution of iron sheets, hoes and rabbits to the vulnerable, in different zones of Bukinanyana commune, thanked those people who rushed to put the fire out. Some suspect those who go into the forest in search for firewood, while for others, arsonists are among the hunters. Nearly one hectare of natural afforestation caught fire. Those who intervened to put out this fire, including the Prime Minister, used more than an hour of time to dig firebreaks and divert a water supply network to the part inflamed by the fire. Forestry officials in Cibitoke province raise public awareness on a daily basis for the environmental preservation in general, and forests in particular, by setting up firebreaks and abandoning the slash and burn.
