KIRUNDO August 11th (ABP) – The CNDD-FDD party in Kirundo province (north of Burundi), is in the process of supporting considerably the environmental protection sector, through reforestation, a check on the site by ABP has revealed.

According to the CNDD-FDD secretary in Kirundo province, Mrs. Médiatrice Kankuyo, the ruling party has set itself the objective of preparing nurseries in all the villages where each village plans to set up nurseries of at least 12,000 plants, i.e., 10,000 agro-forestry species and 2,000 fruit species. As agreed, this work must be completed with the month of August, to proceed with the reforestation, during the next months of October and November.

Mrs. Kankuyo asks everyone to grow at least 10 tree seedlings at home and in public and private properties because, she said, the tree is of unparalleled importance. She did not fail to urge the Bagumyabanga and the people of Kirundo in general to go about development work, including village irrigation during the dry season because, she said, the Kirundo province has plenty of water. She encouraged the Bagumyabanga of Ceru village in Kirundo commune, who were able to exceed the number of compulsory plants, by recording 90,000 plants.

She also warned those who exploit the no man’s lands near the lakes that penalties are in place for the recalcitrants.
