BUJUMBURA May 24th (ABP) – A landslide occurred on Sunday May 21, 2023 in Kabumba village, Ruyaga zone, in Kanyosha commune, Bujumbura province (western Burundi), a check by ABP.
There was no loss of life, but five houses were swept away, the unfortunate event occurred when people were already awake. Also, household items were swept away, according to the permanent executive secretary of the Kanyosha communal administrator, Prudence Baranyikwa.
The latter also revealed that the phenomenon of landslides is of concern to the administration in that commune which has just recorded another one in Sororezo village where houses were knocked down, while others were cracked.
He said the victims of Sunday’s landslide are being sheltered by neighbors who are feeding them through the Burundi Red Cross and other local solidarity committees.
