RUYIGI March 9th (ABP) – Many men from Ruyigi province (eastern Burundi) are convinced that the role of women in the development of the family is important and call on all women in that province to stop underestimate and redouble their enthusiasm for self-development initiatives and cooperatives.

That appeal was launched on Monday March 7 by the men of the headquarters of Ruyigi province who met with the check by ABP during an interview on the role of women in development.

As stated by Lamadhani Miburo, of Muslim faith, residing in the Swahili district and working as a welder, in previous years, Burundian culture, beliefs and tradition wanted women to be very close to their children, engage in the education of children and get down to housework and rural work. He also specifies that he encourages and supports girls to learn the trade that interests them and never to be ashamed of it since all trades are favorable and beneficial to all human beings, without any distinction.

The micro-walk man also walked around the Sanzu I, II and III district. Almost all of the people who spoke to a check by ABP were state officials, who said that financial constraints, lack of arable land and other challenges are pushing girls into occupations once considered boys. A certain Pierre Manirakiza indicated that, because of the extremely difficult living conditions in some families, their children understood that nothing should be neglected which could contribute to their development. This will help them when they have established their homes, making it clear that husbands alone cannot meet the needs of families.

Mr. Aimé Niyukuri, a teacher, returned to the case of some girls who still consider that boys have superior abilities and opportunities to girls. He advises the latter not to sing that they are capable when they are en masse, but to develop the culture of merit and the best results so that they continue to assert themselves and carve out the share of responsibilities that they want to occupy in the future.
