BUBANZA, February 15th (ABP) – The biker parking committees in the province of Bubanza (North-West of Burundi) are called upon to get involved effectively in the eradication of overcrowding and excessive speed. This was announced, during the meeting of provincial police and administrative authorities with bikers, held on Wednesday February 14, 2024, at the provincial headquarters.

According to the Provincial Police Commissioner in Bubanza province, Police Colonel Epitace Gitamira, at least 15 accidents have already been recorded since the start of the year 2024, with 2 deaths and the 27 injured.

Some of the causes of the persistence of these crimes, which have been mentioned by motorcyclists, are among others, motorcycles without plates and vehicles whose drivers indulge in excess in the presence of the police, arguing that transport vehicles belong to the authorities. This, they continue to say, means that bikers in order with the documents do not find customers because those who are not in order transport them at low prices.

They deplored police officers who demand bribes and who mistreat even those who are in order, while some motorcycle owners lament that they are victims of those penalties when it comes to them to pay for the recovery of the documents, and the payment of their bikers remains the same, and does not increase.

As for the Provincial Police Commissioner and the Administrative and Financial Advisor to the Governor of the Bubanza province, Félicien Ndoricimpa, they call on those bikers to work in compliance with the law and to denounce in real time, each time the police officers misbehave. They ask the biker parking committees for effective involvement in order to reduce road accidents.
