Kayanza – Security Destruction of seized hemp and beverages and auction of other seized items

KAYANZA January 22nd (ABP) – The commission in charge of managing seizures in Kayanza province (northern Burundi) proceeded, on the afternoon of Thursday, January 18, to the destruction of 275.5 kg of hemp and expired alcoholic drinks and those exceeding 40% of the alcohol content, seized during operations carried out by the police. At the same time, clothes, shoes and fertilizers, which were going to be the subject of illicit sales, were seized and sold at auction, a check on the site by ABP has revealed.

That activity of destroying hemp, which was seized on several occasions in different localities of Kayanza province, took place in the premises of the Kayanza provincial police station, in the presence of the public prosecutor in Kayanza, the president of the high court, of the provincial commissioner of the police, the provincial official in charge of the Intelligence Service, the provincial representative of the Burundian Office for Environmental Protection, the provincial commissioner in charge of Civil Protection, as well as administrative officials. On that occasion, 40 liters of gasoline were used to destroy 275.5kg of seized hemp. At the same time, drinks whose expiration date has expired and those packaged in bottles of less than 750 ml while their alcohol content exceeds 40% were spilled and destroyed, while other seized objects were sold at auction.

As an illustration, the drinks spilled and destroyed are composed of drinks commonly called Whiskey machozi, Karibu, Super rafiki, Leffe, Coca cola original taste, Polo, Kick, Vodas, Jambo liqueur as well as mineral water. During that same time, three bales of second-hand clothes, 36 loincloths, 2 boxes of yeast, 36 pairs of children’s shoes, 228 kg of organo-mineral fertilizers of the “Imbura” and “Totahaza” type were sold at auction at a total cost of 1,891,300 BIF. That sum of money will be paid into the public treasury account intended for him, according to the public prosecutor in Kayanza, Mr. Isaac Ningabira.
