BUJUMBURA, October 3rd (ABP) – The 1st vice president of the Senate, Mrs. Denise Ndadaye, participated on Saturday, September 30, 2023, in community development work carried out at Musenyi hill, Gitara zone of Mabanda district in Makamba province (south of the country), which consisted of drawing contour lines.

Mrs. Ndadaye indicated, in her speech, that the drawing of contour lines, especially on sloping lands, strongly contributes to the protection of the environment. It also helps to combat incidents that could arise due to climate change, she added.

She asked the people of Makamba to plant fixing herbs on the contour lines and advised them to grow agroforestry trees in fields and fruit trees very close to homes, without forgetting to avoid fraud.

In her welcome address, the governor of Makamba, Mrs. Françoise Ngozirazana reported that people have started sowing for the 2024 crop season and that the lands which were fallow are being plowed. According to her, environmental protection is the gateway to development. As there are returnees settling in the commune, Mrs. Ngozirazana called on the host people to welcome them as Burundians and work in association to increase production, while encouraging them to keep the children in school.
