CIBITOKE August 21st (ABP) – Under the high patronage of the Ministry in charge of youth and culture, the Franco-Burundian alliance of Gitega in partnership with the Burundian association of writers and book promoters (ABEPL) organized on Thursday, August 17, in the headquarters of Cibitoke province, the closing ceremonies of the book and reading caravan.

According to the organizers, that caravan held from July 14 to August 17, was to contribute to the promotion of reading in schools and families.

For the representative of the ministry in charge of youth and culture, Aimable Nkunzumwami, reading feeds the spirit for the revolution of ideas and aims at promoting cultures.

He praised the organization of that activity, which constitutes an educational asset and which reinforces, among young people and parents, the taste and pleasure of reading and books.

He who wants to discover the world, has to read, he said. He called on young people to take advantage of the Internet, but to choose what is constructive, and cut short with what reduces productivity. He congratulated those who participated in the caravan, who exchanged books and who were awarded in the closing ceremony.

As for the panelists, including novelists such as Father Jean Népomucène Bigirimana and Jean d’Arc Nduwayo, and the author Inès Mbesherubusa, in addition to the exhibition and evaluation of their works, stressed that the world is changing thanks to reading.

For Déo Hakizimana, a Burundian writer who was among the speakers of the day, it is impossible to know the truth when you are not reading.

It is worth noting that the observation of some of the speakers was that the rate of reading and writing books in Burundi is still lower, hence the need to sensitize Burundian youth to develop their personality through reading and the Internet, but also to learn to write books.
