MURAMVYA June 14th (ABP) – The team of employees of the Bank of the Republic of Burundi deployed in Muramvya province (center-west), began in the afternoon of Monday June 12, 2023, the activity related to the exchange of banknotes of ten thousand and five thousand francs being withdrawn in favor of new banknotes of ten and five thousand francs put into circulation since June 8, 2023.
That activity was started at the Nyakararo trading center located in the Mushikamo zone of Rutegama commune. As a check on the site by ABP has revealed, people were queuing up waiting to be served. The exchange was for up to a hundred thousand francs.
The beneficiaries of those new banknotes that the check by ABP contacted, commend that initiative of the BRB. Nevertheless, they ask that the BRB revise upwards the ceiling for withdrawals instead of setting only one hundred thousand francs. This is to facilitate their business, especially since some are traders who need large sums of money, they explained.
