CANKUZO June 4th (ABP) – The Minister of East African Community Affairs, Youth, Sports and Culture, Mr. Ezéchiel Nibigira and the Minister of Communication, Information Technologies and Media, Mrs. Léocadie Ndacayisaba met on Monday, May 29, 2023, the people of Gisagara commune in Cankuzo province to listen to their concerns and give answers to them.

The administrator of Gisagara commune, Gratien Nitunga, revealed in his welcome speech the problem of communication especially in the villages bordering Tanzania, following the lack of telephone network. He also asked for help in sports equipment to develop that sector.

Mrs. Ndacayisaba reassured the people that there is a project to multiply telephone antennas in communes bordering other countries to strengthen networks and make communication easier.

She added that the ministry continues to sensitize telecommunications operators to the increase in telephone antennas in rural areas to make communication accessible, even though this takes into account the number of customers and gain.

In connection with the national radio of Burundi no longer broadcasting in the locality, Minister Ndacayisaba announced that some of the equipment of the Birime antenna is broken down and others have caught fire. Nevertheless, she said, generators are used to be able to emit the waves during the presentation of the newspapers, for the good management of the fuel. Moreover, she said that the ministry is working to find the solution to that problem.

The people of that locality were also concerned about the implementation of the use of a single currency in the East African Community. On that issue, Minister Nibigira replied that this policy could be applied in 2030 because there are still steps to be taken, while illustrating that member countries are still discussing the headquarters of the common bank and so many other preparations that may facilitate the project in question.

To the question related to the lack of sports equipment for the development of the sector in that commune, the minister in charge of sports invited the natives of the commune to also contribute and that the ministry intervenes in support of the efforts already combined.
