AU Commission Chairperson expresses condolences after deadly road accident in Senegal

ADDIS ABABA January 9th (XINHUA) – The Chairperson of the African Union (AU) Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat expressed on Sunday his condolences after the tragic road accident that claimed the lives of 40 people in Senegal.

Forty people were killed and several others injured in a collision between two buses in the Kaffrine region of central Senegal on Sunday, emergency relief and health authorities said. “I offer my most sincere condolences and my deepest sympathy to the families of the victims of the tragic road accident” which killed 40 people in Senegal, said Mr. Faki in a message on Twitter. Mr. Faki also wished a quick recovery to the injured, and expressed his full solidarity with Senegalese President Macky Sall, the government and the people of Senegal. After the accident, the Senegalese president declared a national mourning for three days from January 9, and announced that an inter-ministerial council would meet on the same date to take firm measures on road safety and public transport of travelers.
