Community leaders sensitized on communication for development

GITEGA March 26th (ABP) – The Ministry of Communication, Information Technologies and Media, organized on Friday March 22, 2024, in Gitega (center of the country), a training workshop for provincial leaders on the strategy national communication for development towards municipal administrators and their technical development advisors in the provinces of Gitega, Karusi and Mwaro, learned ABP on site.

In his speech, the assistant to the minister in charge of communication, Mr. Thierry Kitamoya indicated that that training aims to strengthen the capacities of communications communities for behavior change in order to ensure broad support and implementation. effective actions planned in the national vision of 2040 and 2060, because according to him, they are essential actors in the implementation of the objectives contained in that vision.

He said that “the trainings on social and behavioral change that we are conducting for you, aim to strengthen the skills and capacity of community leaders to design, implement and evaluate effective programs that promote real change behavior and attitudes of communities.

Mr. Kitamoya reported that with the mid-term evaluation of that strategy, it was noted that communication for development “C4D” has undergone a significant evolution over the years, moving from a traditional awareness-raising approach to a more participatory and interactive approach. He said that today, we are taking a new step by adopting the concept of social and behavioral change which goes beyond the simple transmission of information to focus on social interactions, cultural norms and individual motivations which influence behavior.

He also pointed out that the ministry responsible for communication, to which responsibility for implementing the national communication strategy for development is entrusted, has set up a continuing training program for all the various stakeholders on communication for development in order to get them to resolutely appropriate the approaches and different methods included in that document and those training courses are essential to strengthen the capacities of individuals and communities to make positive changes in their lives.

He did not forget to point out that the ministry in charge of communication is committed to supporting the implementation of social and behavioral change strategies carried out by administrators and advisors, to evaluating the impact of interventions and identifying areas requiring strengthening.
