He said that many countries have developed based on cooperatives. The President of the Upper House of Parliament said that increasing production is the only solution for the inflated prices of basic necessities. He clarified that the country’s major problem is only poverty, and called on all Burundian citizens to love labor.

He urged the director general of the National Authority for the Promotion and Regulation of Cooperative Societies in Burundi (ANACOOP), to build the capacities of the governing bodies of cooperatives on the proper management of funds.

The Chairman of the CIAP Board of Directors, Serge Sindayigaya, commended the support of the Senate President who partnered with the members of his cooperative, in the maize harvest and pleaded for similar support on the rice harvest day.

He noted that his cooperative currently expects a production of nearly 70 tons of maize, on land of around 20 hectares ; while for its rice plantations of nearly 80 hectares, in the provinces of Cibitoke and Bubanza, CIAP expects a production estimated between 400 and 500 tons of rice. He highlighted that agriculture can easily develop the country.
