CIBITOKE March 2nd (ABP) – The Insurance Regulation and Control Agency (ARCA), in collaboration with the Association of Insurers of Burundi (ASSUR), organized Tuesday, February 27, in the capital of the province Cibitoke (north-west of Burundi), a workshop to raise awareness among administrators and traders about insurance and popularize the insurance code.

In his opening speech, the Secretary General of ARCA, Mr. Joseph Butore, indicated that the aim of the workshop was to inform municipal administrators on the civil liability insurance of operators of commercial buildings in matters fire or explosion, and to encourage their involvement in respecting that obligation by ensuring the markets managed by the municipalities.

That is also an opportunity to call on traders to take out civil liability insurance for operators of commercial buildings in terms of fire or explosion to protect customers who come to commercial establishments, he said.

For Mr. Butore, the activity constitutes a final stage of a vast campaign to raise awareness among the population on insurance and to popularize Law Nº1/06 of July 17, 2020 revising Law Nº1/02 of January 7, 2014 bearing the insurance code of Burundi that ARCA has started throughout the country since 2021. He indicated that each year, we travel to a few provinces. Those planned for 2024 and which remained are Cibitoke where we launched, Bubanza, Bujumbura, Cankuzo, and Mwaro.

Through such raids in all corners of the country, Mr. Butore revealed that there are texts that are well analyzed and polished, but which lie dormant in drawers to remain unknown to the recipients. That is what motivated the organization of the said campaign to popularize the content of the texts governing insurance in Burundi.
