NGOZI, January 2nd (ABP) – Members of the Turwanyubukene cooperative of Nyabikenke village in Nyamurenza commune say they are determined to revalorize coffee crop by 2028, the leader of the cooperative, Célestin Baranyitondeye, told a check by ABP during an interview.

Mr. Baranyitondeye said: “We have set ourselves a goal of producing 3,000 additional coffee seedlings. Currently, we only have 2000 seedlings.” This essentially young cooperative also plans to properly maintain the fields by manuring them, carrying out mulching and pruning correctly and also renewing the young plants.

Mr. Baranyitondeye finds that the promotion of coffee will allow, in addition to the inflow of foreign currency into the country, but also an increase in household income and their purchasing power. “It is a very productive crop in Nyamurenza commune. Properly maintaining this export crop is synonymous with family well-being. We also aim to raise awareness among young people about the merits of growing lots of coffee plants,” he insisted.

That cooperative has around thirty young people, most of whom do not attend school. In addition to common fields, cooperative members maintain fields on their own properties. They must have enough experience of the benefits of coffee cultivation and serve as models for the surrounding people.
