The 2nd deputy speaker of the National Assembly calls on the people of Gatumba to clean the gutters to protect themselves against flooding

BUJUMBURA, October 2nd (ABP) – The 2nd deputy speaker of the National Assembly, Abel Gashatsi, joined on Saturday September 30, 2023, the people of Gatumba, Mutimbuzi commune of Bujumbura province, in community development work which consisted of cleaning the drainage channel for waste and rain water.

The two MPs elected in the Bujumbura constituency, Mrs. Saouda Mboneko and Jean Pierre Sinzinkayo, the governor of the Bujumbura province and other administrative officials, were also present at work.

In his speech, Mr. Gashatsi called on the participants to continue to unclog the gutters before the heavy rains fall, without forgetting to block where the Rusizi River passes to flood them. He also indicated that Gatumba is the mirror of the city of Bujumbura and the people must live there in peace and security, calling on the State services responsible for infrastructure to help protect Gatumba as they do for the roads.

He asked the people of that locality to maintain the gutters located near their households, to respect the leaders by avoiding any form of trap, to fight against corruption and sexual wandering, as well as to ensure the security of the border with DR Congo, to prepare for peaceful elections.

To administrative officials and those responsible for education, he recommended that they ensure that teachers give lessons properly.

In response to the complaint addressed to him by the governor of the province during his welcome, concerning the lack of maize and potato seeds in the regions where those crops give a good yield, Mr. Gashatsi called on those responsible for the sector to prepare those seeds and Bujumbura must remain the breadbasket of the economic capital, he insisted.
