KIRUNDO September 18th (ABP) – The Minister of National Defense and Veterans Affairs, Mr. Alain Tribert Mutabazi, joined the people of Ntega commune in Kirundo province (northern Burundi) on Thursday, June 14, 2023, in the work of tracing contour lines on Rwimbogo hill, a check on the site by ABP has revealed. That was as part of the government’s “Ewe Burundi Urambaye” program, where Thursday is dedicated to environmental protection.

In his speech, Minister Mutabazi noted that when the environment is not protected, we cannot have peace, recalling that the Kirundo province has been greatly shaken by climate change, hence the government has invested many means to give hope to the people. He mentioned the agricultural projects financed to the tune of several billions for the development of marshes, the development of watersheds, fish farming, etc., with a view to coping with climate change.

The minister in charge of national defense did not fail to invite the people of Ntega in particular, and that of the province of Kirundo in general, to plant agroforestry species and fruit trees, without forgetting the fixative herbs which will be consumed, in turn, by livestock.

He also urged those who put these fields together to form a cooperative, which is the source of self-development, while promising that he will remain at their side to support the same cooperative.

Mr. Mutabazi encouraged children and youth in general to raise small livestock, such as rabbits and chickens, with a view to supporting parents in the development of their households. He finally asked the population to limit births to guarantee improved household life and allow children to grow up well while satisfying their needs.

According to the administrator of the Ntega commune, Mr. Pierre Claver Mbanzabugabo, the tracing of the contours was carried out on a cultivable land of 9.8 hectares belonging to more than 100 households from the same hill of Rwimbogo who put together their fields.

Remember that the pooling of fields is a Government policy aimed at facilitating the provision of agricultural inputs and the monitoring of crops. It is also the way to cultivate and harvest at the same time.
