GITEGA September 15th (ABP) – The ministry in charge of communication and media is organizing, since Tuesday September 12, 2023, in Gitega (center of the country), a two-day meeting for Burundian media officials, with a view to sharing the recommendations resulting from the 3rd edition of the General Estates of communication and media, held in November 2022 at the Major Seminary of Gitega.

Those officials analyzed different themes with a view to seeing how to definitively restore trust and collaboration between information providers, especially political actors and the media. They, among other things, debated on the best strategies for strengthening the media support fund so that it helps resolve the precariousness of the media (status, resources, management, etc.) and on the preparation and coverage of the upcoming elections.

On this occasion, the assistant to the minister in charge of communication, Mr. Thierry Kitamoya, invited media professionals to always work while respecting the ethics and professional deontology of journalism and to use their responsibility by raising awareness among Burundians in this pre-election period.

The media officials present at this workshop suggested that the ministry organize dialogue sessions with different state executives. They also suggested to the national communication council “CNC” to organize capacity building sessions for new journalists who join this profession, in order to share knowledge. The executive secretary at the CNC, Chanel Nsabimbona, in her speech, suggested to the ministry in charge of public security to set up spokespersons at the regional level so that the population has information in time on certain situations that are occurring through the provinces, far from Bujumbura.
