KARUSI December 7th (ABP) – The Prime Minister, Mr. Gervais Ndirakobuca participated on Monday, December 5, 2022, at Gitaramuka village in Shombo commune, in the harvest of “stem” potatoes, resulting from vitro-plants, at Mr. Léonidas Nimpagaritse, multiplier like ISABU.

According to Mr. Ndirakobuca, the government of Burundi is committed to finding good seeds, in order to improve harvests and promote food self-sufficiency. He pointed out that ISABU alone cannot satisfy the people in need of selected seeds, which is why the government has thought of promoting private multipliers, he said.

The Prime Minister also indicated that Burundi already registers a dozen greenhouse seed multipliers, that is to say from vitro-plants. It is in this context that he announced that the doors are open to anyone who wants to get involved in this field and ISABU is ready to provide support.

Mr. Ndirakobuca regretted not having the expected results, but Dr. Willy Irakoze, director of research at ISABU reassured him, arguing that the atmosphere was not lenient. Indeed, it happened that it was hot to more than 50 degrees Celsius in the greenhouses, he said.

Note that Prime Minister Ndirakobuca also participated in the work of weeding corn, on a 26 ha field belonging to Mr. Léonidas Nimpagaritse.
