BUJUMBURA May 20th (ABP) – The President of the Republic of Burundi, Mr. Evariste Ndayishimiye officially opened Thursday, the works of the 2-day government retreat, at the presidential palace Ntare Rushatsi. Mr. Ndayishimiye noted that this retreat is access to development and is held at a time when Burundi must observe an economic awakening which guarantees a recovery of the population. To achieve that, he said that the government must conduct good economic governance.

Explicitly, the Head of State cites the innovations that have been made in the budget law for the next financial year 2022-2023; defined in a program budget which takes into account the objectives to be achieved quarterly. A law that ensures that all money that escapes taxation is returned to the state coffers.

According to the President of the Republic, that retreat aims to stimulate the same vision among members of the government for a better use of this money. A vision that sets development objectives to be achieved and the budget to be disbursed for each of them, for the economic recovery of the population. The President of the Republic addressed the managers of public funds to change their behavior by being more at the service of the economic development of the population, “by disengaging with the old practices of derogation of work to others”. Thus, after every 3 months, they will have to report on how these funds have been used. Regular monitoring will be done to ensure that these funds have met expected expectations.

For Mr. Ndayishimiye, this is an important decision which must meet with the consensus of all members of the government. During this retreat, the flaws observed in the use of the State budget will be analyzed. To remedy this, good management of public finances will be applied and we will have to stop the phenomenon of squandering taxpayers’ money, with the aim of allowing the population to benefit from the positive effects of those innovations, concluded Mr. Ndayishimiye.
