The President of the Republic of Burundi has received in audience the Secretary General of COMESA

BUJUMBURA May 20th (ABP) – The President of the Republic of Burundi Évariste Ndayishimiye received in audience, Wednesday May 18, 2022 in his office, the COMESA Secretary General Mrs. Cileshe Mpundu Kapwepwe.
At the end of the hearing, the deputy spokesman for the President of the Republic Alain Diomède Nzeyimana told the Burundian press that the two personalities discussed various aspects of the organization (COMESA), but also on the way in which this organization can contribute in the field of agriculture and livestock in Burundi. He also pointed out that their meeting focused on infrastructure and the exchange of goods between COMESA member countries via Lake Tanganyika.
According to Nzeyimana, that session was an opportunity to discuss the cancellation of the COMESA summit that was to be held in Burundi in 2018 when the government of Burundi and even individuals had already committed money for the organization of the said summit.
To that question, Mrs. Cileshe said that individuals have been reimbursed and that the government will be in the days to come.
Mr. Nzeyimana also specified that the two personalities agreed that the next COMESA summit will be held in Burundi adding also that the president of Burundi will be the chairman of COMESA.
The COMESA Secretary General took this opportunity to request the government of Burundi to support the organization of the general elections to be held in Kenya that year and see how these elections can be conducted peacefully, noting that Burundi has experience in the matter.
