MUYINGA March 22nd (ABP) – The First Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, Mrs. Sabine Ntakarutimana, called on women and girls on Saturday in Muyinga province (northern Burundi) to work on development for their empowerment. The 1st Deputy Speaker of the Lower House of Parliament made that appeal during the ceremonies marking the celebration of International Women’s Rights Day which took place in Butihinda commune.

On that occasion, Mrs. Ntakarutimana mobilized women to take advantage of the services offered by the new bank intended for them. “You must seize this opportunity offered to you to break the many obstacles you faced in the search for bank loans”. For her, women should be interested in it and make savings in that bank. She specified that they are not even obliged to go there to deposit their savings because the operation can be done electronically.

Mrs. Ntakarutimana also mobilized women to reinforce the positive values of our ancestors which constitute the foundation of Burundian culture.

She advised young girls for restraint and responsible behavior. She also advised them to turn their backs on those who seek to abuse them, a source of unwanted pregnancies and school dropouts. She was delighted with the progress of women in the province of Muyinga, especially their representativeness in the various sectors of the country.

Nevertheless, all is not good, there are many household conflicts in that province. The cases of couples in the process of divorcing in the courts take second place after land disputes, regretted the provincial governor, who urges young girls to be enterprising to empower themselves economically before contracting marriage so as not to, at all time, depend on their spouses. It was an opportunity for the women present at that event to introduce them to their colleagues elected to the women’s forum at the communal and provincial levels.
