International Women’s Day Celebration

MAKAMBA March 22nd (ABP) – The women of Makamba province (southern Burundi) met on Friday March 18, 2022 at the headquarters of the province, to celebrate International Women’s Day. In her speech, the Director of Gender Equality at the Ministry of National Solidarity, Social Affairs, Human Rights and Gender, Mrs. Donavine Niyonsaba, indicated that in Makamba even at the national level, women focus on field work and environmental protection to curb climate change, factors of good agricultural performance. She asked women to form cooperatives and draw up bankable projects to obtain loans from the Bank for Investment and Development for Women (BIDF). Here, she said that the social workers will have to help in the orientation of those women during the drawing up of the projects.

The legal adviser to the governor of Makamba, Mr. Alexis Ndikuriyo, said that the provincial administration is delighted that women are represented in various development cooperatives and associations.

During those ceremonies, Mrs. Niyonsaba presented a new team of five women recently elected members of the National Women’s Forum at the provincial level, headed by Mrs. Concesse Niyonsaba.
