BUJUMBURA March 10th (ABP) – The local NGO GIRIYUJA, is working on the socio-educational supervision of vulnerable children, at risk as well as children from communities who evolve normally using virtual libraries. Those activities are developed within the framework of the implementation of the project called “Ideas-Box” commonly called “Virtual Library”, it was noted on Tuesday from the national coordinator of this NGO, Mr. Aimable Barandagiye.

These libraries have been set up in three places in the Bujumbura town hall, namely Kabondo (urban commune of Mukaza), Kanyosha (Muha commune) and Buterere (Ntahangwa commune). They are made up of computers, high pads with educational content made up of incorporated books and other objects that can be manipulated by children during the coaching session.

More concretely, said Mr. Barandagiye, those libraries contribute to strengthening the knowledge of street children in order to facilitate their reintegration into school. They also help vulnerable children to better prepare for their future training in the various practical trades organized by that NGO. Those include sewing, mechanics, welding and soap making.

The national coordinator of the NGO GIRIYUJA indicates that this project, which started on June 1, 2020 and ends in 2025, has enabled the socio-educational supervision of more than 3,000 children from downtown Bujumbura and the Buterere and Kanyosha districts. specifying that the NGO GIRIYUJA has hired 18 social workers who take care of the supervision of those children

Mr. Barandagiye regrets that the NGO is no longer able to respond favorably to all the children of the communities who wish to benefit from the benefits of that project due to the very limited financial means. Nevertheless, he said, the NGO is seeking funding in order to multiply these educational support tools for children and, as far as possible, extend this project to other districts of the Bujumbura City Council and of the surrounding towns.

The installation of a single virtual library costs about 100 thousand Euros, or 200 million Fbu, said Mr. Barandagiye.
