The Head of State received the Assistant Under-Secretary Administrator and Director of the Regional Office for Africa working within the UNDP

BUJUMBURA February 27th (ABP) – The President of the Republic of Burundi, Mr. Evariste Ndayishimiye, received in audience on Friday February 23, 2024, in Bujumbura, Mrs. Ahunnu Aziakonwa-Onochie, Assistant Secretary General, Assistant Administrator and Director of the Office regional representative for Africa working within the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).

In an interview with the press, Mrs. Aziakonwa-Onochie said that she had come to thank the President of the Republic of Burundi for the warm hospitality extended to her during her stay.

According to that host, Burundi’s security has been considerably advanced. That gives a lot of hope to the country, she underlined, specifying that the UNDP hopes that there will always be stability and peace to be able to pave the way for real development of the country.

On that same occasion, Mrs. Aziakonwa-Onochie also welcomed the step taken by Burundian youth who are innovating and discovering opportunities to contribute, through their talents, to the development of the country. “Investing in the entrepreneurship sector is something that is close to UNDP’s heart,” she noted.

She did not fail to emphasize the support for Burundian women who always demonstrate their courage in the agricultural sector, given that that sector is the heart of the Burundian economy, she said.

Note that the discussions between the two personalities focused on the digitalization of public services in the fight against corruption by improving accountability and the efficiency of the country’s resources, declared Ms. Aziokonwa-Onochie.
