The First Lady has received in audience the Assistant-Secretary-General of the United Nations

BUJUMBURA, February 23rd (ABP) – The First Lady of Burundi, Mrs. Angeline Ndayishimiye, received in audience, on Wednesday February 21, 2024, in Bujumbura, the Assistant-Secretary-General of the United Nations at the same time the Assistant Administrator of the UNDP and the Director of the UNDP Regional Bureau for Africa, Mrs. Ahunna Eziakonwa.

During the audience, Mrs. Eziakonwa appreciated the efforts made by the first lady of Burundi through her foundation “Bonne action Umugiraneza” and its services.

On the same occasion, Mrs. Eziakonwa reassured her of the availability of support from UNDP with the entire United Nations system, because, she declared, the activities of the first lady contribute to the development of the country especially in the advancement of women and girls.

Mrs. Eziakonwa further indicated that their discussions also focused on a support mission that will come to support women suffering from obstetric fistula, where 50 women will be operated on, while other care will be provided to people in need of it.

Mrs. Eziakonwa affirmed that the UNDP will continue its support through the Humura centers which welcome women victims of sexual violence, while recalling that the UNDP has continued to support the Gitega and Rumonge centers.
