KAYANZA, January 14th (ABP) – The Minister of the Interior, Community Development and Public Security, Martin Niteretse, brought together on Thursday, January 11, 2024, at the headquarters of Kayanza province (north), the communal administrators, heads of provincial services, leaders of zones as well as district commissioners of the national police working in that province, a check by ABP revealed.
The governor of Kayanza, Rémy Cishahayo, said he was satisfied with the recent measure fixing the price of dry maize grains, specifying that the people will be remunerated in accordance with the efforts made and material resources involved.
However, he deplored the fact that an unidentified disease had attacked the banana plantations and invited the people to uproot the attacked banana plantations for six months to replant other strains of banana trees.
For his part, the minister responsible for public security invited the participants to ensure the tightening of security. Thus, he specified that any unknown person in the one or the other locality must be identified.
As for foreigners, he stressed that they must specify their origin and the objective of their visit and hold a residence card. “It is only in Burundi that foreigners come to roam freely in all corners,” he noted. The minister nevertheless notes that foreigners have the right to reside in Burundi and to carry out various activities there provided they comply with the law.
Minister Niteretse therefore recommended that administrative officials record people already identified in household notebooks.
In addition, he pointed out that zone leaders must make the concerns of their constituents their own. “If your subordinates go beyond you to convey their grievances to the higher hierarchy, it proves that you do not care about their concerns,” he suggested, adding that those who do not care about the grievances of their subordinates must pull themselves together.
‘We could not neglect the grievances of the people because tightening security becomes impossible when people do not feel comfortable, reason why you are called on to work for the interest of the latter’, he concluded.
