GITEGA December 12th (ABP) – The Teen Challenge Burundi center which supports people disabled by drug use organized community development work in the town of Gitega (center of the country) on Saturday December 9, 2023. That work consisted of removing rubbish found in the gutters on national road number 2, on the Yoba and Magarama side in order to make the town of Gitega more beautiful, a check on the site by ABP has revealed.

After that work, a basketball match continued between the youth club supervised by that center and the KBC club “Kirimiro Basketball Club”. That match was settled with a score of 73 points out of 50 points in favor of the Teen Challenge Burundi center club.

The head of that center, Pastor Ciza Alexis, indicated that he is delighted with the step already taken despite certain constraints related to the lack of homes and the necessary means to better accomplish their missions. That is when, according to him, there are more people seeking support. He called on parents who bring their children to that center to continue to honor their commitments so that the center can continue to operate. Pastor Ciza Alexis pointed out that people disabled by drugs can heal and become good citizens who can contribute to the development of the family and the country. It is for that reason, according to him, that he organized that community work with those people in order to help them understand that they must work to develop. That is why the Teen Challenge Burundi center teaches those children in a practical way different trades including sewing, automobile mechanics as well as modern agriculture and livestock breeding twice a week in order to familiarize them with the world of work. .

The head of the Teen Challenge Burundi center calls on young people to cut short the consumption of narcotics which gradually destroy them but also introduce them to bad behavior such as adultery, banditry, non-participation in development work, etc. He also called on parents to consolidate dialogue at home with their children, because, he indicated, most of the children housed in that center are city dwellers from families whose parents are in conflict.

Pastor Ciza Alexis reports that soon he will open another center in Simba in Makebuko commune. According to him, that new center will accommodate boys while the current Nyarubabi center on Rukoba hill in Gitega commune and province will accommodate girls and women in that situation.

Irambona Danny Gelsy, one of the boys who have already left that center, warmly thanked the staff of the Teen Challenge Burundi center who give their body and soul to save the lives of people who use drugs. He reported that currently he is in good health and hopes that next year he will continue his university studies. Mr. Irambona calls on anyone who consumes those products who wishes to overcome that problem to approach that center for help. On the other side, Mr. Hassan alias “Difficile” who was a football player at the Flambeau club in Gitega Center thanked the good Lord who saved him and that He is now a good man. To that end, he asked for forgiveness from all the people he had stolen from or harmed.

On the administration side, the head of the Nyamugari zone in the urban center of Gitega also encouraged the head of the Teen Challenge Burundi center for his contribution to the development of the country by setting up a center which helps people in difficult situations to narcotics to become normal people again. He called on all benefactors to support that center in order to continue its mission, which is difficult but very beneficial for families, the community and the country in general.
