Taxpayers are called on to definitively break with tax and customs fraud

BUJUMBURA November 27th (ABP) – Three ministries in charge of Finance, Interior and Trade organized, Friday, November 24, 2023, a joint meeting of large and medium taxpayers on the fight against fraud and smuggling.

During that meeting, the Minister in charge of Finance, Mr. Audace Niyonzima, indicated that all taxpayers must pay taxes because, he continued, those taxes are increasing. state revenue.

To realize the vision of Burundi emerging in 2040 and a developed country in 2060, we must first eradicate tax fraud, which constitutes a primary handicap to the country’s treasury. “There are those who reduce the volume of their affairs instead of declaring them in full,” he lamented.

Furthermore, he gave the example of those who sell their items at 100,000,000 BIF per month and declare that they were sold at 10,000,000 BIF. Mr. Niyonzima specifies that all that is tax fraud. He calls on taxpayers to definitively break away from tax and customs fraud.

Speaking, the Minister in charge of public security, Mr. Martin Ninteretse warned importing traders and business leaders that the national police had been mobilized to track down all kinds of fraud.

The minister responsible for trade, Mrs. Chantal Nijimbere, in turn, reminded those traders to respect the law aimed at protecting all commercial and industrial businesses by changing their behavior in the fight against fraud, to that there is a good business climate in Burundi.
