Diplomatic tools, a better path to finding peaceful solutions to security challenges

BUJUMBURA, November 23rd (ABP) – On a working visit to Burundi, on Wednesday November 15, 2023, the President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, held a bilateral meeting with his Burundian counterpart Evariste Ndayishimiye.

During the meeting, the two Heads of State discussed various topics of the regional and international situation of common interest, those that are linked to the problems of the DR Congo and Sudan.

Both parties also stressed the importance of the international community fully supporting current regional efforts aimed at finding a comprehensive political solution to the DR Congo crisis within the framework of Nairobi and Luanda, according to the joint press release issued after that meeting.

Regarding Sudan, the two leaders stressed the urgent need to immediately cease fire to allow the delivery of humanitarian aid and find a lasting solution to the Sudanese conflict through dialogue and cooperation.

At the international level, the two Heads of State expressed their deep concern about the security situation prevailing in the world, marked by the proliferation of direct conflicts among States and proxy wars in several regions.

They took the opportunity to call on all countries concerned to use diplomatic tools such as dialogue, negotiations and cooperation to find peaceful solutions to the security challenges facing the world at this very difficult moment.

The two Heads of State further reaffirmed the need to respect the United Nations Charter, international law and relevant legal instruments in the management of current conflicts in the world and the rejection of the unilateral use of force to address the world common challenges.

All in all, the two Heads of State did not fail to make an appeal to all parties to the ongoing conflicts in the world, to immediately cease fire in order to save innocent human lives that have nothing to do with the causes of a long list of conflicts that undermine development efforts around the world.

At the end of his visit, the President of the Federal Republic of Somalia expressed his gratitude and appreciation to his Burundian counterpart Evariste Ndayishimiye, for the warm welcome and hospitality extended to him.
