BUJUMBURA, November 13th (ABP) – The Minister of Environment, Agriculture and Livestock, Mr. Prosper Dodiko, announced, during a press briefing held on Friday, November 10, 2023, the new strategy for increase in agricultural production.

Mr. Dodiko indicated that this strategy is to create an environment favorable to the emergence of the professional private sector, which reinforces the Government’s efforts through strong synergy, aimed at the market.

To achieve this objective, he called on the private sector to get involved in the areas of intervention, namely: agricultural production areas, animal production areas, seed companies, development and irrigation, as well as agricultural mechanization.

He specified that agricultural production areas and State lands have been identified and will be made available to legal or natural persons, committed to becoming professionals and capable of meeting a minimum of criteria. They will consider people with proof of financial capacity to develop the land and irrigate it, capable of intensifying production using an efficient technological package, and who have proof of previous professional investment initiatives in the agricultural production sector, he added.

For the seed production areas, Minister Dodiko reported that the State seed centers have been identified and will be made available to legal or natural persons engaged in working as a seed company, capable of honoring the request of the State to supply seeds in the required quantity and quality at a specified period.

To succeed in that mission, those concerned must have proof of financial capacity to develop the land, irrigate it and lay the foundations for agricultural mechanization and agree to work according to the standards and requirements for seed production.

He further stressed that interested persons with areas that they intend to exploit can contact 69605429 or 69112579, or at the email address: vestinenyandwi84@gmail.com, doprosper2002@yahoo.fr, for the registration of those who would like exploit agricultural production areas. Those concerned with seed production are asked to contact 61626988 or 61719997, or on aniyokwishimira@ymail.com, doprosper2002@yahoo.fr.
