BUJUMBURA, November 10th (ABP) – The Ministry of Public Health and the Fight against AIDS through the national health program and the national integrated food and nutrition program (PRONIANUT) in collaboration with the “NKURIZA” project organized on Thursday, November 9, 2023 at Bujumbura city, a two-day training workshop for journalists on the collection and processing of information related to nutrition and reproductive health.

In his presentation, Mr. Célestin Hicuburundi, communication expert in that project, indicated that the “NKURIZA” project is a project relating to early childhood and demographic control.

He continued to say that the objective of this project (ODP) is to extend the coverage of community nutritional interventions to women of reproductive age and children under two years of age and the use of planning services in targeted areas.

For children under two years old, Mr. Hicuburundi indicated that this project monitors and promotes the growth of all interventions at the community level, also adding that this project supports the early management of childhood illnesses including malaria, diarrhea and pneumonia.

Concerning the main interventions of the “NKURIZA” project, he highlighted, among others, the stimulation of demand for reproductive health services and communication for change in social behavior.

During that workshop, Mr. Hicuburundi took the opportunity to call on journalists to always ensure the handling of information related to nutrition and reproductive health and especially for sensitive data.

The overall budget of the “NKURIZA” project is USD 30 million and it started in May 2021 and will end in June 2024, recalled Mr. Célestin Hicuburundi.
