MWARO August 24th (ABP) – The provincial health office of Mwaro, in collaboration with the Burundi Alliance against AIDS and for the promotion of health, organized on Tuesday August 22, a workshop on sexual and reproductive health among youth and adolescents, for stakeholders.

In his opening remarks, the socio-cultural adviser to the Governor of Mwaro, Claver Ngurube, invited young people and adolescents, especially those who represent others, to share lessons on sexual and reproductive health so that their health remains in good condition. In this case, he added, they will be able to carry out development work for their families and for the country.

The medical director of Mwaro province, Ezéchiel Nzuwonsaba, also affirmed that without young people in good health, development is impossible. He added that surveys made here and there have revealed that young people contribute a lot to the development of the country. If their health is poor, it creates problems for families and the country, he said.

According to Dr. Nzuwonsaba, in Mwaro health province, there are many youth-friendly health centers that are there to give teachings on sexual and reproductive health in order to sensitize young people to prepare for their future. He asked the participants in the workshop to lend a hand to have healthy young people and adolescents.

In his presentation, the ABS CHARP project coordinator, Dr. Désiré Nduwimana, clarified that to improve sexual and reproductive health outcomes, young people must have comprehensive sexuality education. This education aims to equip adolescents with factual knowledge, skills, attitudes and values that will give them the means to develop while respecting their dignity.
