NGOZI August 24th (ABP) – The Ministry of Justice organized on Wednesday August 23 in Ngozi, a session of judicial moralization for the heads of courts, prosecutors and clerks within the jurisdiction of the Court of Appeal of Ngozi.

During the session, it was revealed that the image of the judicial sector is not good. Beside the bribes, some judge do not read the law correctly or lean for one reason or another.

Incarcerations in detention houses are abusive even for cases that are not serious or necessary. The law on the period of preventive detention is not respected. Verdict enforcements are difficult for residential courts, since unjust injunctions come from the hierarchy or even outside the hierarchy. The independence of the judge is undermined from inside or outside the judicial system.

The Advisor to the General Directorate of Judicial Organization, Mr. Gérard Nzeyimana, proposed strict compliance with the law and professional ethics as a remedy to those challenges. Regarding the independence of the judge, the principle is of paramount importance but it also requires service providers in the judicial sector to be more self-respecting and responsible.

The law on the implementation of verdicts provided should be revised especially for the courts of residence which are called upon to enforce trial verdicts provided by different courts.

Note that professional ethics, better management of judicial articles and the fight against corruption were the themes that those judicial officials had to discuss in that session.
