BUJUMBURA June 29th (ABP) – The Ministry of Communication, Information Technologies and the Media has continued its campaign to set up communication committees for development, in Bujumbura province (western Burundi), in Isare communes, Kabezi, Mutimbuzi and Nyabiraba, a check on the site by ABP has revealed.

The people targeted are the representatives of political parties (that of the party in power and that of the opposition), the technical adviser in charge of development in the commune, the representatives of religious denominations, a representative of young people, that of women, a representative of the Batwa community and that of the vulnerable.

According to the delegate of the said ministry, Aloys Haziyo, considering government projects such as the National Development Program (PND 2018-2027) and the 2040-2060 vision which provides that in 2040 Burundi will be an emerging country and in 2060, a developed country, the media must play their role and actively contribute to publicizing government actions, according to the rules of the trade.

He pointed out that the projects were made and thought out in the offices and implemented without taking into account the wishes of the population, and after the departure of the donor, we only see billboards, because people have not taken ownership of them, Mr. Haziyo said. He added that the government wants to change its approach by giving the floor to the beneficiaries, who will now speak about their needs and take part in their drawing up and implementation.

The members of the communication committees will work with the media, they will follow the discussions in the groups they represent and the media will handle information related to the concerns of the people, which will be reported by the communication committees. He let them know that journalists are not enemies as some mistakenly think, but they are key actors.
