Preparations for the 28th Annual Conference and General Assembly of the East Africa Law Society

BUJUMBURA June 19th (ABP) – Barrister Jean de Dieu Muhuzenge hosted on Friday, June 16, 2023, in Bujumbura, a conference with the aim of making the public discover more about the role of East Africa Law Society (EALS) in the East African community in general and in Burundi in particular.

The conference also aimed to provide an update on the preparations for the major gathering of legal professionals from East African countries, entitled “The 28th Annual Conference and General Assembly of the East Africa Law Society”, organized by EALS in collaboration with the Bar Association of Burundi.

Me Muhuzenge said that this conference will allow legal professionals to discuss the challenges they face. The said conference also aims to help East African lawyers build cross-border professional networks, he added.

This conference will also be an opportunity to show the international community that Burundi is not at all landlocked, that it is a country where peace and security reign, stressing that regional integration particularly from the standpoint of the free movement of persons will materialize more.

In addition, it will be a great opportunity for Burundian legal professionals in general and lawyers in particular to build great relationships with their colleagues in the sub-region to be able to work in a network.

Regarding the role of EALS, Barrister Muhuzenge indicated that its role is to promote the legal profession, good governance, the rule of law and human rights in the region by building capacity, advocating and by working together.

Recall that training on identified topical themes, on the use of international texts ratified by Burundi, on regional and international jurisprudence will be provided.
