Bujumbura February 16th (ABP) – The governor of Bujumbura province (western Burundi), Mr. Désiré Nsengiyumva met on Friday, February 10, 2023, at the headquarters of Isare commune, traders operating in that province to discuss the measures aimed at increasing production, respecting prices and hygiene.

Governor Nsengiyumva suggested that itinerant traders stop wasting time but, instead, specialize in certain crops.

Merchants of Brarudi products at all levels are required to respect the prices set by the ministry in charge of trade by displaying the sale and retail prices for drinking establishments, and those who are not able to do it, just have to stop the activity.

One of the stakeholders reported that it is difficult to enforce those prices, pointing out that they are selling at a loss and for that reason, traders have sent a letter to the governor so that he can see how to ease those measures. It is out of the question to change the prices set by the State, according to that provincial authority.

Governor Nsengiyumva recommended that hotel owners manage them well with strict respect for visitors. The hotels which will be known as for places of prostitution will be immediately closed, the governor revealed, adding that the owners of those houses of reception of the visitors must bring the registers duly filled in on a daily basis. Bars and hotels must have adequate lavatories and must be clean in general, Governor Nsengiyumva instructed.
