BUJUMBURA December 20th (ABP) – Some public trash cans installed in places of large gatherings to serve as waste collection in Mukaza commune, Bujumbura city council, require replacement, a check on the site by ABP has revealed.

In some places in the city of Bujumbura, there are public trash cans are in poor conditions, others have holes, as is the case opposite the bus parking station for the north of the capital, all along boulevard Mwezi Gisabo and next to the Mutanga campus (University of Burundi).

The waste that is thrown there is not emptied regularly, which causes the overflow and the waste is scattered on the ground giving off an unpleasant odor when one passes by it. In the trash cans already in poor conditions, the waste is scattered next to it, thus polluting the environment.

The people met at the scene ask the municipality of Mukaza to bring other trash cans that are in good condition.

Those public trash cans were installed with the aim of improving sanitation in the city of Bujumbura but, if not careful, they risk being a source of environmental pollution.
