BUBANZA July 12th (ABP) – Entrepreneurs and innovators are called upon to protect their trademarks, the names of their companies, their products and others, as their exclusive exploitation allows them. That appeal was launched to them, Thursday July 7, 2022, by the Ministry of Trade, Transport, Industry and Tourism, in the training and information workshop on the importance of industrial property, at the place of entrepreneurs, researchers, innovators, craftsmen, executives of justice, OBR and the Police, of the communes Musigati and Bubanza (North-West of Burundi).

According to the director of the industrial property department, within the ministry, Mr. Déo Niyungeko, the protection of trademarks, names of industries or processing plants, commercial products and others, allows exclusive exploitation for the owners. It also gives the company a positive image, gives them the possibility of assigning or licensing.

Mr. Niyungeko said that the observation is that some are trying to work under the names and brands of others. He also indicates that most entrepreneurs do not protect their brands and names. But welcomes the step already taken indicating that more than 1000 companies have already protected their brands and more than 400 have already recovered their patents, noting that these companies are for the most part foreign, we learn from the same source.

The director of the industrial property department calls on young entrepreneurs to always think about protecting their brands, the names of their companies and products, as a safeguard against counterfeiting. Note that the same workshop took place on Friday, July 8, 2022, for representatives of the different layers of the population of Mpanda, Rugazi and Gihanga communes.
