BUBANZA July 7th (ABP) – Preparations for cropping season C are going well, in Bubanza province (north-west of Burundi). The Director of the Provincial Office of Environment, Agriculture and Livestock (BPEAE), Mr. Emmanuel Ndikubaganwa, remains optimistic that the harvest will be good.

According to Mr. Ndikubaganwa, 5495.5 hectares of swamps and shallows have already been identified to be exploited during the cropping season C. Crops planned are maize, rice, sweet potato, cabbage, onions and other vegetable crops. He also says that 5712.75 tons of chemical fertilizers are being distributed to 11083 farmers, since Monday, July 4, and the distribution is done in the villages with the aim of facilitating easy access to those inputs.

As for the development of arable land, the BPEAE Bubanza specified that the contour lines are being dug at the sites already targeted, in all the communes.

Director Ndikubaganwa indeed calls on farmers to follow the instructions of agricultural monitors and communal agronomists to increase agricultural production. He is delighted with the good harvest for cropping season B, but asks farmers to consider keeping their produce in storage sheds, to avoid speculation by traders, and with the aim of protecting their harvest.
