The First Lady has received in audience the ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Burundi

BUJUMBURA June 7th (ABP) – The first lady of the country and president of the Office of the First Lady for Development (OPDD), Mrs. Angeline Ndayishimiye, received in audience on Monday, June 6, 2022, at the presidential palace Ntare Rushatsi, the ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Burundi, Mr. Jeroen Steeghs, where they discussed the possibilities of cooperation between Burundi and the Netherlands especially in the sector of health, a check on the site by ABP has revealed.

On the sidelines of the audience, the executive secretary of the OPDD, Dr. Jean Bosco Girukwishaka, indicated that the ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and his delegation had come to learn about the mission and the objectives of the ‘OPDD.

He specified that those Dutch authorities have positively appreciated the various activities already carried out, in particular the school feeding program, without forgetting to discuss reproduction, population growth and unwanted pregnancies in schools.

The Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Burundi, Mr. Jeroen Steeghs, meanwhile, told the press that in their exchanges, they discussed very important topics such as family planning and sexual and reproductive health. He encouraged the first lady of the country for her leadership in sensitizing Burundian youth on sexual and reproductive health, female leadership, etc.

Mr. Steeghs also specified that the first lady plays a very important role in raising awareness of the people on those subjects, adding that they have, for this purpose, discussed the possibilities of cooperation between Burundi and the Netherlands in those essential areas for the well-being of the people, from where they decided to set up a joint commission which will work out related subjects to be implemented in common.
