BUJUMBURA June 7th (ABP) – On the occasion of the celebration of Pentecost Day on Sunday June 5, 2022, the President of the Republic of Burundi, Mr. Evariste Ndayishimiye, accompanied by his family, joined the Christians from the parish of Saint Jean Baptiste of Gihosha, in the Ntahangwa commune of the town hall of Bujumbura.

In his speech, the Head of State greeted the Christians of the said parish and wished them a happy Pentecost feast and to all Burundians.

The Burundian number one also took this opportunity to call on them to strengthen love and also asked them to always pray for him in order to fulfill his mission of leading the country according to God’s will.

Previously, the parish priest of Saint Jean Baptiste, Jules Tchissando welcomed the President of the Republic of Burundi.

During the sermon, Father Aristide Ndayikengurukiye based himself on the word of God taken from the act of the apostles. He asked Christians to open their hearts to receive the Holy Spirit bestowed by Jesus Christ on the day of Pentecost to his disciples. He went on to explain that whoever receives the Holy Spirit receives the joy of his heart because his life becomes a new life, he becomes a child of God and his body becomes the temple of the Holy Spirit. For this reason, he invited them to forsake sin and allow themselves to be led by the spirit of God to remain in his love in order to love one another, to remain united so that God may glorify himself and have respect in their life.

Christians are also called to lay aside the works of the pulpit in order to repent. It should be noted that the feast of Pentecost is celebrated 50 days after that of Easter. It is the day when Jesus Christ gave peace and the Holy Spirit to his disciples and said to them: “those whose sins you forgive, they will be forgiven; and those from whom you retain them, they will be retained.”
