BUJUMBURA June 7th (ABP) – The activities of the 13th edition of the International Film and Audiovisual Festival of Burundi (FESTICAB), ended on Friday June 3, 2022 and were marked by the awarding of prizes to the best filmmakers who stood out.

The best films from all over the world were awarded according to their categories.

The event observed the participation of several actors and directors of Burundian and foreign films who came to receive their prizes or attend the ceremonies of that great cinematographic event in Burundi, which took place in the auditorium of the Institute. French from Burundi (IFB).

In his speech for the occasion, the representative of the Minister for East African Community Affairs, Youth, Sports and Culture said that: “who says art says first of all the creative will on the part of man artist and to create is to want to do, to inform, to educate, to sensitize and consequently to transform the world by the artist himself”. He also indicated that “cinema is an eminently popular art insofar as it gives direct access to the world which is richer, more direct and more concrete”.

As far as he is concerned, the ministry is committed to supporting and accompanying it in the promotion of the cultural sector in general and in the development of the film industry in Burundi in particular. He also thanked the FESTICAB for its constant concern to strengthen the capacities of talented young people through training workshops and meetings with professionals. That obviously ensures the sustainability of the FESTICAB as well as the production of authentic and original works in quantity and quality, he added. Those works will enrich the programming of both national and international television channels, he continued.

He also stressed that he is delighted that over the years not only the partners of FESTICAB are increasing but also the audiences of moviegoers are constantly growing across the country. And to specify that the ministry in charge of culture can only continue to support that beautiful and unique event, promising to remain at its side by combining all efforts to further mobilize resources for a better future.
